Feasibility studies
TGMS feasibility studies draw on a wide range of data sources and site investigations to provide the Client with a detailed report on their site and the proposed development in order that a detailed project plan can be developed, whether this be for the renovation of an existing sports ground or park, or for the construction of a new facility.
Based on our experience, we have found that the following feasibility study structure provides sufficient detail for the Client to satisfy the requirements of funding bodies such as Sport England or the Football Foundation for their funding applications. However, we can tailor this service to address any specific requirements.
a) An initial ground survey conducted by our Field Engineers using unique, non-invasive, scanning techniques.
b) A comprehensive assessment conducted by a qualified and experienced Consultant.
a) Initial site survey

The following assessments will be undertaken:
- Production of topographic maps using RTK-GPS equipment, measuring surface levels 5 times per second to an accuracy of +/- 10 mm (equivalent to 10,000 reference points per hectare) to provide a basis for determining earthworks requirements or to assist in optimising site layout and design.
- Production of soil variability maps for both the topsoil (0 to 200 mm deep) and subsoil (0 to 1.2 m) using electro-magnetic induction (EMI) scanning technology. N.B. EMI scanning can detect details of under soil features (non-invasively) that would not be identified from a conventional site visit. Consequently this approach provides a unique insight into the condition of the soil beneath the surface.
- Collation and overlaying of existing drainage plans (if available).
b) Comprehensive site assessment

Guided by the results of the initial survey, a thorough and comprehensive investigation will be conducted by a Consultant to determine:
- The fundamental issues that may affect the quality of the surface (e.g. adverse topography, ground water table, temporary water table, low permeability).
- Other issues that require further investigation (e.g. contaminated land, permissions to discharge drainage water, developments in designated flood plains and groundwater source protection zones).
- A potential site layout, taking into account the optimum orientation for sports pitches and site topography.
- A range of development options to address the fundamental issues identified above, whilst satisfying client aspirations.
- Indicative remediation/construction costs for budgetary purposes.
- An appropriate outline programme of works for planning purposes.
The feasibility study will be presented in the form of a detailed written report with associated maps and drawings (where appropriate). The report and drawings can be supplied as both a hard copy and in an electronic format (e.g. Adobe).
